What We Do
Three programs, one trail forward
Every program at OBB grows from the same idea: young people don't have to wait to shape their community. Some of us tell its story. Some of us learn to argue for it well. Some of us build it, one park bench and one planted tree at a time.
Program One
OBB Times
Barnegat doesn't have a dedicated local news source run by the people who actually live here, so we started one. OBB Times is our student-run outlet: members research local issues, interview neighbors and officials, and put together stories that actually get printed and shared. It's local journalism made by the town's youngest residents, for everyone in it.
Program Two
Debate & Speech Club
We host debates and speech contests built around real issues, not textbook hypotheticals. The goal isn't to win an argument: it's to get comfortable understanding both sides of one, speaking clearly under pressure, and disagreeing with someone without losing respect for them. Those are the skills that make civic pride into civic participation.
Program Three
Beautification Corps
This is where OBB gets its hands dirty. Beautification Corps grows and protects the parts of Barnegat that make it worth calling home, from local infrastructure to the wild places just off the trail. It's split into two divisions so members can put their energy where it fits best, and both count toward volunteer hours.
Proof It Works
Our first project, before there was a name for it
Before OBB had three programs, it had a trail and five people willing to clean it. On May 3, 2026, members walked the Barnegat Branch Trail into the Atlantic Heights community and filled five bags of trash along the way. That's Beautification Corps in practice. It just came first.
